I found that by going to control panel/ add remove programmes then clicking the change instead of remove, a panel opens and asks if you wish to uninstall. click yes and it uninstalls easily

Symantec would have to be one of the biggest bunch of losers other than MS. They can't protect their software from any viruses at all. Anti Tamper technology, ROTFLMAO.. That has got to be one of dumbest statements I have ever heard. If you have any symantec product installed and even get a virus on a floppy within 10 feet of the computer, you don't even have to put it in the drive and nortons will turn toes up and stop working. The product is broken, dump it and use anything else. Hell atleast when you have nothing installed you expect to get something. Instead of having a false sense of security while the virus sneezes at nortons and knocks it out and then has fun playing with your computer.

Nortons - Symantec etc suck

Damn I am sick and tired of Norton's subscription update not working. Every F'in year I go thru this $hit. This time, I tried their online subscription update and they listed the update but there was no price listed and no link to take you to the renewal form. I guess Norton doesn't want my business. Time to go to McAfee or elsewhere

My Norton AntiVirus subscription expired. I had intended to upgrade to SysWorks2004 so I was not renewing my subscription. ( SysWorks 2004 was being offered free after rebates). THE PROBLEM: A window pops up every day saying subscription expired. It gives two options: renew now or renew later. There should be a third option "close window permanently" but there isn't. How do you stop this window from popping up? I think Norton is sleazy for doing this. It is nothing more than harassment of their customers.

I had Norton Anti-Virus 2003 and had subscribed for another year of updates. A few months later I purchased a new computer that came with Norton 2004 and 3 months of updates. After 3 months I started getting notices that my subscription had expired, even though the subscription I paid for earlier had 6 months left. I went to Symatec's website, and naturally there was no solution to my situation there. I e-mailed Symatec about my situation and was informed that it would take 3-4 days to receive an answer. 10 days later I have not heard from them. Of course there is no toll free customer service # available, those have been discontinued. So...Norton's policy is now just take your money and run? I hate to lose out on 6 months of paid subscription, but right now I'm not getting any updates, and I really don't want to give Norton any more of my money when they not only don't provide a human voice to talk to, but won't even answer e-mails! Guess I'll just give my money to McAfee!

Not only does the subscription expiration popup lack a longer delay (mine gives only 1 day before the next popup), but it appears at almost ANYTIME- not just when you first start. I was playing a game when the popup appeared and promptly crashed it. Does anyone know how to get rid of that f**king popup? I deleted the entire NAV from that computer, but I have another that will expire soon. And after my last subscription fiasco, renewing is not an option either. If you know how to silence NAV, please tell the secret to the rest of us!

Cannot get NAV to run when clicking the System Tray icon (get hourglass for a second or 2 and it disappears). Ditto when clicking the Systemworks icon on the Desktop. Yet, I know that everything is working fine when sending and receiving Emails, plus all programs will execute when selected via Explorer or if set up to run via Task Manager – weird as heck!

There are no viruses (as suggested by the Knowledgebase article) as the system was cleansed prior to installation with AVG, Spybot, etc., and Rnav2003 and symclean were used to ensure complete uninstall + using RegLite to delete every existence of Symantec and Norton keys/values in the Registry.

Any ideas???
Thanks

I used to be a big Norton fan. I often wondered why Microsoft could stand having their products sorted by Symantec. However, today, the usual live update came along and installed virus definitions and a new version of Live Update (2,5,55, which is one behind the current available version). OK, restart PC and ...pow! UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP STOP 0x0000007. The dreaded Blue Screen of Death!

Well 6 hours later and the help from Experts Exchange, I find that Norton now needs more kernel space. More what??? I hear you ask? Yes, it needs more than the normal Intel chip set can provide. Brilliant! What's more, I have an old chipset, 440, which is not supported by the Intel fix.

So, what to do. Symantec recommend screwing around in the registry to add a D_WOrd (a what???) to increase the kernel size. Now, to non-techies, that must be absolute volapyk. Anyway, they warn you-back up the registry-this is dangerous, folks.

I succeeded, so far, so good. I have just about had it with Norton. What went wrong? Utilities 2001 was great, Ghost is good if you can get the USB drivers to work and NIS has stopped me getting trojans in the past (I preferred it when it was "AtGuard", before Symantec bought it.

How many thousands of non-technical PC owners are starting their PC's today with a blue screen? If the had the Live Update running in the background, they would have NO IDEA why the PC has stopped working. WAKE UP SYMANTEC!!!!! You can't do this to your customers. Take a big ad in the world press and tell every poor user HOW YOU HAVE SCREWED UP!

I am very tired now and I am going to bed. I hope this will help anyone who has this problem

I have NAV 2003. I have it set for Automatic Live Update. The live updating (flashing icon on the system tray) no longer appears while an update is happening. For me, it's helpful to see it. This disappearance began a few days ago. Two things happened a few days ago: I downloaded recent software updates to NAV, and the latest Windows Update SP1 for Win ME. I don't which caused this problem. It's sad that it has become the "norm" for users to have to waste precious time and energy trying to find and reverse setting changes done in secret by these companies. The various sources of help (within the programs and at the company sites) are mostly useless. Message boards and web searching offer more promise.

I found a serious problem when using Norton AntiVirus 9.0 in a Windows File Server using AppleTalk. After installing 9.0, all Mac file shares couldn't be accessed. All return to normal after uninstalling it. We have tried different sceneros and still can't find anyway to solve this. There is no such problem in other brand names.

Hi,
I had to reformat my compuyer (Win98se) and reinstall Windows and everything else.

I planned on installing Norton last, so I installed all the Windows Critical Updates first.

I could not get NAV2003 to "register properly". I tried uninstall, reinstall, deleting the registry entry as indicated by the Norton document "Cannot start Norton Antivirus 2003 after installation". Changed the path for the desktop icon. But NO Norton!

I decided to reformat my hdd again! This time I did not do Windows Updates.

I installed Norton AV2003 and it is installed properly!

So there must be something in the Critical Updates from MS that make Norton AV2003 not installed properly.

Hope this helps someone.

My work computer has NAV Corporate Edition (v7). It allows you to only auto-scan files on write (not read), which really speeds things up. I can't figure out how to do this in NAV 2003 on my home computer, and it's so slow that I have to turn off auto-scan. Does anyone know how this can this be done on 2003?

Thanks,

I have just sent this 'feedback' to Symantec, but reading some of the other comments on your site, I don't expect a reply! -
"I have a current subscription for Antivirus 2003, but I can’t get support! Why do you take people’s money then refuse to respond when the product doesn’t work???
The software is not working, it leaks viruses like a sieve, but when I try online update, I get the message that I have all the updates. The program says there is an error in e-mail scanning, but it wont let me change it. If I change the settings, they just revert back, so I can only assume that your beloved programme has been corrupted by one of the viruses you undertook to protect me from and you now don’t want to help.
I can’t get the support I've paid for and everything about your so called support website is designed to just get me to pay for a newer version - I am extremely, extremely unhappy. I can’t even check if my subscription is up to date – your online subscription virtual assistant is worse than useless. Just to add insult to injury, I note from your web-site that it is your policy is not to reply to this communication – is there any way to get contact you??? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
I shall let you know if I get a response...

What to do... My computer worked fine until Windows XP SP2 came along. Now it crashes regularly due to an apparent discord between Norton Antivirus 2003 and MS XP. In addition, NAV 2003 will not work unless I'm logged in with administrative rights. I tested this to be sure. Login with only user rights, NAV 2003 doesn't work, log in with Admin user rights, NAV 2003 works. Since Symantec refuses to support 2003 I'm left with deciding what to do next. I would pay the cost to upgrade to NAV 2005 but there is no confidence building documentation that NAV 2005 will resolve my problems or that Symantec will be there to help. Further, reading others comments makes me concerned that NAV 2005 will introduce me to a whole new hell.

I used McAfee for a year, both virus and firewall. There were a variety of issues with it, unfortunately I don't remember what they were (it was a year ago now), so I thought I'd try Norton to see if there were fewer issues. Bad decsision. I still have a few months on my year subscription, but I'm considering going through the pain and cost of changing back now anyway...

I renewed my subscription in July and continue to get messages that my subscription has expired. I have the acknowledgment and the credit card receipt that I have paid. The biggest frustation is that this company hides behind cyberspace. I have tried repeatedly to find out where their headquarters is located so that I can talk with a human, but only get irrelevant automatic responses.

Does anyone know other security systems that might provide more accurate service?

I could surf the internet just fine until I installed Norton System works and Fire wall. Now I am unable to connect at all. I guess that is how Norton protects your computer...

I tried to resolve the problem by going to there website and had no luck, only got a headeache! It seems my only option is to call "pay per minute" helpline. I feel like I'm getting raped! Norton is a sleazy outfit. No customer support!

One, Norton's blocks your blog.

Second, try sending an email with thunderbird. Norton's Internet Security starts a scan, but never completes it. Also, you have to disable it to download emails.
It's just easier to do it all on Linux

I have tried for a month of Sundays to get NAV 2003 on WinXP SP2 to download and install the Norton WMI update that will allow the security center to monitor the Antivirus status. However, I have had NO joy. Does ANYONE know where to obtain the Norton WMI Update File so it can be maunally installed to get the system functioning properly. Symantec is NO help in this at all, None of their TOOLS work, I have tried them all dozens of times. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.
